Medical Dermatology

Our board-certified dermatologists are trained to treat patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. This includes the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin, hair and nail conditions. Conditions common among children are moles, birthmarks, dermatitis, acne, warts, vitiligo, insect bites, and birth defects. For adults, we treat a range of conditions, such as skin cancers and pre-cancers, rosacea, psoriasis, and connective tissue diseases. We also treat eczema, allergies, and carefully examine moles or other growths to determine whether they have the potential to become cancerous.

Pediatric Dermatology

We provide diagnosis and treatment services for infants, children, and adolescents. While children and adults experience many of the same skin conditions, certain conditions are more prevalent in younger patients and require special care that takes into consideration the needs of these patients. Children are often at risk for fungal and bacterial infections of the skin, as well as a wide array of other acquired and congenital conditions.

Our treatments are gentle, allowing children to engage in their everyday activities while efficiently managing their skin condition. Children with healthy skin can also be seen for regular examinations to learn about proper skin care, including adequate sun protection. Early examination by a dermatologist can promote a lifetime of healthy skin for our pediatric patients.

Our skin specialists are highly skilled and experienced in treating pediatric skin conditions. They strive to provide a comfortable, safe, and worry-free experience for both the child and parent. We take the time to educate parents about their child’s condition to help ensure proper treatment and home care so children can grow up with clear, healthy skin.

Surgical Dermatology

Our board-certified dermatologists have received extensive training in surgical procedures. They have been trained to perform such operations and have studied the latest techniques and procedures.

Our comprehensive array of surgical services includes:

  • Removal of precancerous growths such as actinic keratoses
  • Surgical removal of skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma
  • Removal of benign lesions such as skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, warts, and cysts

Cosmetic Dermatology

Dermatologists understand that one of the most important contributors to a person’s well-being is the health and appearance of their skin. Cosmetic dermatology treatments differ from traditional plastic surgery in that they are designed to enhance your skin’s natural repair mechanisms. Cosmetic dermatology embodies the principles of prevention, correcting volume loss, and rejuvenation instead of reshaping or stretching the skin. The result is a healthier, more ‘awake’ appearance.

These preventative and restorative treatments aim to repair skin damage that has accumulated over a lifetime. Cosmetic treatments can also serve as a complement or boost to a comprehensive skin care regimen to bring out the best in your skin.

We offer the latest cosmetic treatments at Lam Dermatology and Associates. These treatments are part of a comprehensive skin care regimen designed to complement the medical treatments prescribed by the physician.

Wrinkles may be treated using various techniques. We offer the latest treatments including neuromodulators (Botox and Dysport), prescription topical treatments, laser facials, chemical peels, and cosmeceuticals.

Loss of natural fat or facial volume contributes significantly to the appearance of aged skin. Dermatologists select injectable fillers to instantly plump and replenish areas of lost volume, especially the nasolabial folds, cheeks, temples, thinning lips, chin & jawline, among many other areas. Facial fillers can also be used to correct scars, superficial wrinkles, and deep wrinkles.

Lips that have lost plumpness through the aging process, or naturally thin or disproportionate lips, can be treated to look fuller with non-surgical injectable fillers. Hyaluronic acid-based Restylane and Juvederm are popular options.

Laser treatments can effectively plump, tone, and smooth the skin of the face and decollete. These treatments are effective in correcting “crepe-y” appearance and can also be utilized as long-term preventative care for your skin.

Excessive frowning, UV-light damage, and natural aging can all contribute to frown lines or “eleven-lines.” This area can be treated with neuromodulators, dermal fillers, and other preventative measures.

Periorbital lines, or “laugh-lines,” are easily corrected with non-surgical treatment. Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) as well as laser treatments or chemical peels can be effective in treating this area, particularly when treatment is maintained on a regular basis.

With the aging process, loss of volume is not limited to our faces. Sagging earlobes and earlobes that have been stretched out from piercings can be improved with dermal filler injections.

Treatment of acne starts with a medical approach to clear the complexion of acne break-outs and pimples. Unfortunately, moderate-to-severe acne can occasionally cause scarring. We offer many treatments to improve the appearance of acne scars including laser treatments, dermal fillers, and microneedling.

Whether genetic or acquired, patients often struggle with this problem area, and despite weight-loss efforts, submental fat can be resistant to diet and exercise alone. Kybella treatments are non-surgical and minimally invasive, and can provide permanent reduction of the double chin or submental fat.

What are dermal fillers and what can they treat?

Dermal fillers are cosmetic products made for injection. They are typically comprised of natural substances, such as hyaluronic acid. A trained and experienced dermatologist injects filler products in specific areas under the skin to correct for signs of aging.

What is BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX® is a natural, purified protein, which blocks the release of a chemical called acetylcholine. This blocks the nerve impulses to the muscles that cause wrinkles. When we frown, the skin is gathered into a fold causing a furrow or wrinkle. When BOTOX® is injected into selected facial muscles causing relaxation of these muscles, the skin that lies over top of these muscles becomes smoothed out.

The following areas are commonly treated with dermal fillers:

  • Lip lines
  • Lip fullness
  • Cheeks
  • Under eyes (tear trough)
  • Bridge of nose
  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Marionette lines
  • Mental crease (chin crease)
  • Jaw & chin augmentation
  • Scars (acne scars or other)
  • Hand rejuvenation
  • Earlobe rejuvenation

Dermatologists commonly treat the following areas with BOTOX® Cosmetic:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines (“eleven lines”)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Lip lines
  • Chin dimples/texture
  • Gummy smile
  • Marionette lines
  • Neck bands
  • Excessive sweating

Laser Facial Rejuvenation

Freckles, sun spots, wrinkles, lines, broken blood vessels, melasma—there are many kinds of sun damage resulting from over-exposure or simply long-term exposure to the sun. In addition, some patients suffer from a form of rosacea that consists of stubborn and hard-to-treat redness and broken capillaries.

The advanced lasers at Lam Dermatology and Associates can treat and reduce sun damage of many sorts. Depending on the extent of the damage, correction can take repeated and committed treatment. Prescription retinoids, cosmeceuticals, chemical peels, and spot treatment with liquid nitrogen can help reverse the cosmetic signs of photoaging.

What is Kybella™?

Kybella is a new injectable treatment for submental fullness (double chin) that can significantly improve chin contouring without the invasiveness and downtime of surgery. Kybella was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 2015 for the reduction of submental fat. Dr. Lam is one of the first trained injectors of Kybella in the Oklahoma City area.

Kybella is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid, which is a substance naturally created by our bodies and used to break down and absorb dietary fat. Kybella has been under development for more than 9 years, and has been the subject of over 20 clinical studies involving more than 2600 patients. When properly injected in the chin area, it has been shown to dissolve submental fat (which causes double chin) and result in significant cosmetic improvement by creating a more streamline contour along the jawline.

The typical patient may expect 2 to 6 treatment sessions, each consisting of injections of Kybella directly into the fat tissue of the submental area. Dr. Lam utilized injectable numbing to minimize discomfort at the time of treatment. Patients may experience pain, numbness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and other side effects following the treatment, which gradually fade as healing occurs over 2 to 4 weeks.

Schedule a consultation with Lam Dermatology today to see if Kybella is the right treatment for you.
